Events for Business: 5 Effective Strategies to Help You Get Butts in Seats

As entrepreneurs, we are constantly looking for new ways to connect with our audience. Incorporating events into your business model is not only strategic but can also be an extremely powerful tool. As a business event strategist, clients always ask me how can they generate better ticket sales and get butts in seats.

There are several strategies that are implemented to help you get butts in seats. Here are five effective ways to connect with your event audience.

Establish Event Branding

Creating consistent and compelling event graphics is essential when marketing and promoting your event.  The event brand will easily help your audience identify your event and establish familiarity. Your event brand should include a compelling: event name, colors, fonts, and graphic style.

Understand the Emotional Connection

You should always ask yourself: What do you want your event audience to feel?  What are the impact and uniqueness your event will bring? Why should they attend this event? What is the outcome that you want attendees to have.  Answering these questions will help you establish the benefits and pain points that will result in effective event marketing to target the right audience and increase ticket sales.

Create an Online Hub

Your event audience will need a place to connect with like-minded people.  Creating an online hub allows you as the event host/organizer to provide event updates, create polls, and share ticket discounts/specials. The easiest way to establish your online hub is by creating a Facebook Event Page and/or Facebook Group. You can also use the online hub after the event and continue the connection by strategically creating opportunities to highlight your business services.

Show the Face Behind the Event

It is imperative for attendees to see you as the person behind the event.  Use the online hub so attendees can get to know you by showcasing your expertise, thereby, increasing your credibility. Let them see what they will miss by not attending this event (The Fear of Missing Out Effect) Remember, when you’re authentic, the connection will follow and so will the ticket sales.

Invite Industry Influencer(s)

Become familiar with notable industry influencers who you feel will share your values, compliments your brand, and will resonate with your audience.  The industry influencer should help set the stage for what your attendees will experience.   Be strategic with how you incorporate and maximize influencers in your event marketing and promotions.

How I Began Building My Authority and Increasing My Visibility within my Industry

Over the past fifteen years, I have produced community events, corporate meetings, conferences, business dinners, and award galas.

I also had a 9 to 5  within the non-profit sector where I served as a volunteer coordinator, program manager for an awards program. During the pandemic, I was furloughed and eventually laid off. This is when I realized that I needed to up-level my side business because I decided then and there I wanted to make my side business my primary business.

Let’s be real, I admit I was going to miss receiving that paycheck every two weeks…but that was the only thing I was going to miss.  So, I took advantage of being home and reached out to my personal and business network along with past clients to seek business opportunities. I also worked on a plan to get known within my industry.  This was the start of my Build Your Authority 3-part Framework.

I’m sharing a little of my story because I know there is someone out there who is nervous about starting their business or unsure of how to move to the next level in their current business. There is so much opportunity out there for you. The first thing is to TRUST yourself and know that you are positioned for purpose!

Once I implemented this framework, the opportunities and ideas for my business followed. I established new agreements with my old clients, secured event clarity sessions with a new client, and created The Build Your Authority Summit. This summit was a vision that I had for women in business to connect, support, and empower each other. This event will help women find their value and voice. If you are interested in attending the next summit, join our mailing list.
